Sun of May: I flew the flag of Argentina last friday, 12 February. My flag reference book notes this day as the anniversary of the promulgation of the Argentine flag.

My flag, which is hand stitched rather than printed, has a lovely sun motif in the middle. I decided to look up the origin. It is described as the Sun of May (Sol de Mayo), the national emblem of Argentina. It first appeared on a coin, the Argentinian dollar, in 1813 and there are conflicting ideas about the origin - either an Aztec reference to the good Indi, or a reference to European heraldry.

"of May" appears to refer to the revolution in May 1810 which marked the beginning of independence from the Spanish Empire.

Uruguay  have a similar though slightly different motif on their flag

I have created a calendar which shows the schedule of flags I will be flying from November 2015 onwards. The schedule will be updated monthly. Note that some days have more than one entry

fresh air. We get plenty of that in Tasmania. Lunch time today I happened upon Queensland versus South Australia playing at the St John's Oval.

It was a packed hour - sparkling batting, plenty of fours, off spin, medium pace and leg spin. And of course, a dropped catch. All in front of such a beautiful backdrop - Kunanyi.

And it was windy.
